Renown, hitherto a bachelor ship, will carry several women passengers besides the Duchess of York, Their accommodation will be given special attention, and will include a drawing-room, private dining-room, bedrooms, and dressing-rooms, while the state rooms will be decorated specially to please the Duchess.
Sir Frank Dyson, Astronomer-Royal, believes that the dazzling light which flashed across the country {torn North Yorkshire to London on Monday night was caused by a meteor. It was first feared that there had been a great explosion, and the newspaper offioes were besieged with inquiries. Other causes suggested were an earthquake, Aurora Borealis, lightning, or a fireball. Scientists are frankly mystified. e • e e
Schlesinger, a music teacher, and Weber, who were arrested on the charge of derailing the Lehrte train, confessed that they perpetrated the crime with the intention • <ff robbing the passengers. They were without money and in great distress, so they became desperate. The Berlin-Oologne-Flushing express was derailed at 2 a.m. while 1 travelling at full speed. Twenty-one people were killed and many injured. Investigations showed that the rail bolts had been loosened and the fish-plates detached. • s • e
A public school headmaster, Mr Adamson, of Melbourne, next week will interview 55 English and Scottish candidates for 40 teatiling positions in Australian seoondary schools. All are highly qualified men and women with degrees. Mr Adamson will also select two English schoolboys for scholarships at Geelong and Wesley colleges. The hoys will embark in December.
