AT STREET CORNERS CITY COUNCIL’S ACTION, With commendable presence, the City Council is . making a genuine effort to oopo with the traffic problems of the future. With a view to eliminating congestion at busy intersections, it was decided at last night's meeting of’ the council, on the recommendation of th« finance and property committee, that all new buildings to be erected in the future at street corners be so layed back in order to inmrove visibility at street intersections. It was further agreed that a copy of the resolution.be forwarded to,the Architects’ Institute. A QUID PRO QUO The by-laws committe recommended that authority be granted for the erection of a building at the corner of Grey street and Lnmbton quay, subject to compliance with.all conditions laid down by the city engineer's department, the provisions of the by-law. relating to the height of buildings to be dispensed with in order that this building may be of a height more than olio and a half times the width of the street, provided sufficient land is dedicated.to the council free of cost for the splaying of the corner. The recommendation was 'approved.
