NATIONALISTS DISTRUSTFUL
SEE GERMANY "SURROUNDED BY OPEN ENEMIES” MUCH YET TO ACCOMPLISH. (Received September 9, 7.20 p.m.) BERLIN, September 8. The German delegates have departed for Geneva. The Nationalist newspapers alone comment on Germany's admission with no enthusiasm. j The “Boersen Zeitung” sayst _ It must not be forgotten tbat we join the circle as an- infamous partner, who still has a. policeman in her house. Peaceful collaboration is impossible until the humiliations of the Versailles Treaty have been removed.’* The “Deutsche-Allgemeine” demands the withdrawal of the occupational troops and military missions, which are instruments of an unreasonable policy of violenoe. The ‘ ‘Lokal-Anzeiger ’ declares that Germany sees herself at Geneva surrounded by the envy and ill-will of open enemies, and is therefore pledged to the greatest watchfulness. The “Taegliche Rundschau” soys it is glad Germany has reached the goal, which is only a stage in the struggle for the restoration of Germany, the healing of the damages of war, and tho pacification of Europe. On the morning of August Ufch William G. Heines, builder, of Kiccarton road. Christchurch, left home suddenly. Since then nothing has been seen or heard of him. Haines left a message sayiqg that he intended going to Stfmner, and that he had intended to take his own life. If this had been done his body is al- . most certain to have been found. - Ho gave no othijr reason. Following thf expulsion of Cabinet Ministers from the Clerks’ Union, Messrs Lougblin and O’Halloran have written apologies for non-attendance at the meeting from which the expulsions were promulgated, and it is an. ticipated that they will, therefore, he readmitted to the union.
The City Council last night refused the application for a subsidy of £SO towards the proposed Plunket room at Wadestown.
