FOULING A DIVER’S LINE
Whales are fairiy numerous on the Western Australian"" pearling grounds at present. One caused consternation among the-crew and diver of the lugger Douglas recently. Thp diver was below and tee tepder holding the line gave slack each time he felt pressure, until he had played out about 6C fathoms. He-then took a hitch around thp mast and immediately the lugger commenced to travel stern font at a great rate. After about a mile of this a whale came to tee surface and shook the line .free.. The diver, who had been pulled to the surface, dropped to the bottom again.
