Co. ) THE BARON KELVIN. The Baron Kelvin arrived at Auckland at 5.15 a.m. on Thursday morning from Montreal. She is due to reave Auckland on September 3rd for Wellington, and is due here on September sth. (N.Z.S. Co.) THE PAKEHA. Tho Pakeha, which arrived at T.jv telton on Thursday morning, sails *rom that port to-day for London, via Monte Video aud Teneriffe. (S.S. and A. Line.) THE RARANGA. The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company advise that the Raranga will arrive on September 26th with cargo for Australia. BARON KELVIN’S VOYAGE. Fully loaded with general cargo, including a number of motor-cars and pianos, the steamer Baron Kelvin (Captain A. McKay) arrived at Auckland from Montreal on Thursday morning. The Baron Kelvin, which has not previously visited either New Zealand or Australia, commenced loading at Sydney, Cape Breton, and completed her cargo at Montreal. Final departure was taken from Montreal on July Ist, and a call made at Newport News on July 9th for bunkers, tho voyage being resumed two days later. In the Carribean Sea the steamer encountered strong north-east winds and rough seas, water being shipped both fore and aft. For three days Tlie ship rolled heavily, frequent examination of the hatches being necessary.No damage was done, however, and on July 20th the steamer arrived at Colon. Transit through the Panama Canal was obtained on the following day, and on resuming her voyage the vessel experienced variable winds, changing from west to northwest. Further quantities of water were shipped, the Baron Kelvin straining heavily. On August 17th the conditions improved, but op the following day further storms were encountered. Although she laboured heavily, and was badly buffeted, the freighter escaped damage. On Monday and Tuesday last the final heavy weather of the voyage was encountered. On her passage across the Pacific the Baron Kelvin called at Pitcairn Island at midday on August Bth, a stay of half an hour beinb made. From Auckland the vessel, which is owned by Messrs Hogarth and Sou, of Glasgow, and is a sis-' ter ship to the Baron Murray, which visited Auckland several" months ago, is to proceed to Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. The rates of exchange on the cargo are Canada 4.86 dollars, U.S.A. 4.86 dollars. Captain A. McKay is in command, and has with him the following officers ; First, Mr C. Marshall; second, Mr G. S. Moore; third, Mr E. V. Bilger; chief engineer, Mr C. C. Chapman; second, Mr S. W. Graham; third, Mr J. Macartney; wireless operator, Mr R. F. Harrington; chief steward, Mr R. ►Smith. The steamer carries a crew of 28 all told, mostly British. The New Zealand Shipping Company are the local agents.
