A fire occurred at Pukeroro, neat Cambridge, in the early hours of this morning, totally destroying the residence of Mr C.‘. Charlton. The occupants escaped in thoir night attire, and nothing was saved. The building, a two-story one, is one of the oldest in tho district. It was insured, but details are not yet available. WAIPUKURAU, August 28. A five-roomed house and contents, owned and occupied by Mr J. Hall and situated in Woburn street, was totally destroyed by fire at 2 a.m. to-day. The insurance details are not yet available BLENHEIM, August 23. Th« homestead of John Cantwell, a dairy farmer ol Para, on the BlenheiuiPicton highway, was totally destroyed by fire last night, together with the contents and outbuildings. Mrs Cantwell and children were at home alone at the time. When retiring, Mrs Cantwell heard a strange noise at the rear of the house. She opened the door into the kitchen to investigate, and a great billow of smoke enveloped her. She collapsed, but quickly recovered herself and hurriedly got the children to a place of safety. Neither water nor assistance were available, and the fire made a clean sweep. The buildings are insured for £6lO and contents for £2OO in the Phoenix office. The Joss is estimated at £4OO.
