Mr Jamee William Hardy, Inspector of Schools, Auckland, retires on superannuation at the end of the month. The appointment of PaymasterLieutenant Parratt, R.N., to H.M.S. Dunedin, has been approved. Mr Samuel John Harding, assistant engineer to the Public AVorks Department, Auckland, has retired on superannuation. Dr. L. A. Riddell has been appointed house surgeon at Wellington Hospital. The Mayor of Auckland, Mr G. Baildon, is at present visiting 'Wellington. The Rev. Archdeacon Taylor and the Revs. J. Feron and C. Perry arrived from Lyttelton yesterday morning. Mr F. O. Townsend, representing the London “Times,” has arrived in Wellington, and is staying at the Midland Hotel. The Rev. J. Beaufort has been appointed chaplain to H.M.S. Philomel. Mr Beaufort was for some time on the Hauraki Plains, and more recently he was stationed at Raglan. Major W. Watt, formerly of the Royal Naval Air Force, and Commander of the airship R2G, is visiting Gisborne, and was a guest at the Rotary Club luncheon. Lieutenant-Colonel J. L. Fraser, V.D., has been appointed Assistant Director of Medical Services, Central Command, vice Lieutenant-Colonel H. J. McLean, C.8.E., M. 8., Y.D. Mr J. Merle Davis, general secretary of the Institute of Pacific Relations, has arrived in Wellington from Christchurch in continuation of a tour round the Pacific in connection with the affairs of the institute. Mr Frank Hutchens, the well-known New Zealand pianist, has been elected president of the Musical Association of New South Wales, following Mr Cyril Monk in that distinguished office. Dr. S. L. Guerin, senior house surgeon at Wellington Hospital, has tendered his resignation, which was accepted by the board yesterday. He has accepted an appointment as clinical registrar under Dunedin Hospital Board. He had been at Wellington Hospital for two years. Prior to the commencement of the ordinary business at the meeting of the Wellington Hospital Board yesterday, the chairman, Mr C. M. Luke, made sympathetic reference to the death of Dr. J. P. Frengley, Assistant Director-General of Health. Mr Luke said Dr. Frengley was for many years deputy inspector-general of hospitals in New Zealand, and few knew more on the subject. He gave the board great assistance in preparing the plans for the extensive work now being carried out. A resolution recording the loss to the department and the hospital, and sympathy with the bereaved family, was moved by the chairman and seconded by Mr F. Castle, and was carried in silence.
