OIL FOUND ON JAFFA COAST Australian and N.Z. Cable Assn. (Received August 17, 7.45 p.m.) LONDON, August 16. The Jerusalem correspondent of the “Daily Express” writes: “The reported discovery of petroleum on the Jaffa coast has caused excitement among Biblical scholars, who suggest that it provides a new explanation of old controversies, as, for instance, the Elijah miracle, when he ordered water to be poured over the bullock, and prayed for heavenly fire to consume it, thus confounding the priests of Baal. “It is now claimed that it was petroleum which Elijah ignited under cover of praying over the bullock.”
