FINGER-PRINTS FOR CHEQUES
Despite the most elaborate precautions in the way of cheque writers, special papers, indelible inks, punctur- . ing registers, and other devices, criminals succeed in altering cheques and negotiable papers, and not infrequently tlm altered document is one which has been pronounced crook proof. No one, however, lias ever succeeded ;u duplicating the whorls on the human finger. which are distinctly arranged in each individual and remain unchanged through life. The latest develop-: merit, therefore, in a cheque insurance is the application of tho finger-print indentificat’.on method a.s a signature. A compact outfit for this purpose fits into the bin pocket. One pad holds the ink while another holds a cleansing cream for removing the ink from the thumb after, the mark is made. Thumb-print signatures will be kept on a file at the bank, just as lists of signature*? are now kept.
