LETTERS
Dear Fairiel, — I want to be a fairy as I seo you have a good time. I am ten and have good friends. I have a black and white speckled hen. Every day she comes into the kitchen for a piece of cake. She stands by the cupboard and when we open it she pecks the cake tin. I always put the cake on the mat for lier and keep the other hens away.—Your Fairy, MAGGIE ROBERTS. Kilbirnie. *•* . • Dear Fairiel, — We are playing a game of hockey here scon against another team. I am half. We will be starting cricket when we go back from our holidays. I will be having a birthday soon, on the 17tli of this month. My brother and myself are twins and will be 13 years old then. I have a little steam engine which you heat with a lamp and it does work quickly. Our village is named after the bush: there is a Tot of tall fern here and so they call it “Pongaroa,” which means “Tall Fern.” I have a mecanno set which I can biuild plenty off things with.—Your loving Elf, TERRENCE. Terrence Williams, Pongaroa. # * • • Dear Fairiel, — Last week I went up to the Botanical Gardons. I saw some trees with names on. . . the kauri, ash, flowering fuchsia and pine. There were lots of pretty flowers. One was something like heather. Going up a path leading upwards. I looked down. I could see a pond with some ducks on it. To make it pretty there was a tree with big red flowers. It looked very pretty. There were ferns growing round the water’s edge, and everything was reflected. The puzzle is a very good one. It is very cold at Rona Bay these mornings. Dorothy did net forget her letter.—Your loving Fairy, JOAN.. Joan Urquhart, Eastbourne.
