Don’t let tho strings down when through playing. 4. Don t let tile violin lie around the house, on the tabic, on top of the piano. When not in' use, the violin should be kept in its case. 5. The violin should be covered with a soft cloth when in the case. (>. Don't hang your violin on a mueie stand. 7. Don’t count time with your feet. 8. Practice scales every day. p. Practice drawing the bow every day, with the stick inclined towards the finger-board. Sustain each tone for a minute or more. 10. To produce Ihe vibrato on tho open strings, the same note an octave higher is held down (but not bowed) on another string. For instance, place the t'lnt’d finger on G and the D string, draw the bmv ou the open G string, using the vibrato on the note not played. 11. Don’t waste a let of time on jazz music. Your teacher can supply you with good music. As soon as you are far enough advanced, get a Concerto and start to work on it. 12. She was formerly knoyn as Louelin Chilsom-Ohvman. She sang in concert and vaudeville in America, with success, but was unable to gain oneratic recognition. so she went ’abroad, sang successfully in various European opera houses, and last summer created a sensdtion in Paris. She is now under a five-year contract with the Paris Grand Opera, of which she is said tn be the only American member, and has been granted leave of absence to sing in Chicago.
