“CARMEN”
ROYAL CHORAL UNION. ’ The next musical event of importance in Wellington is the performance by the Royal Wellington Choral Union of Bizet’s picturesque opera “Carmen.” This work is so well known to all lovers of grand opera that it is hardly necessary to describe. The music makes a considerable demand for emotional and dramatic vocalism, and will certainly test the capacity of the artists engaged in interpretative work. An exceptionally strong cast of principals (nine in all) has been engaged, headed by that brilliant English’ tenor, Mr Arthur Jordan, who created such a deep impression in “The Messiah” lastDecember. The other soloists are Miss Mina Caldow, Mesdames J. F. Woodward, A. E. Burge, Frank Tunley, ana Messrs Ernest Short, E. J. Hill, Len Barnes, and Edwin Dennis. A rthearsal for chorus only will be held tonight. The box plan opens at tho Bristol at 9 this morning. No person will be allowed to book more than ten seats at any one time.
