WELLINGTON IN THE WET
(To the Editor, “N.Z. Times.’*) Sir, —I was glad to see by this morning’s “Times’ 5 that attention has been drawn to the growing untidiness, diit and general sloppiness of Wellington. Several matters your correspondent mentions come within the scope of the Police Offences Act, and it is to be hoped they will now be attended to. Leaky verandahs particularly, are the rule in Wellington. They are an offence under this Act. and should be dealt with by the police. Possibly, however, they are too busy watching the hotels, and especially noting the number of women who drink, although under the existing law they have an equal right in this respect with men—if they are not Maori women. Tn this connection it is about time the law was amended. Streets and footpaths here arc in an awful condition, especially considering the large expenditure on them. Some would disgrace a third-rate bush township.—l am .etc., DISGUSTED. Wellington, July 24th, 1926.
