STANDARD PORCELAINS (NX), LTD. PROCESSES DESCRIBED. An exhibit of the Show with an edtK cational yalue is that of Standard Porcelains (N.Z.), Ltd., fpr, in addition to displaying samples of the articles to be manufactured at the Petone works of the firm, which is now practically completed, the firm feature on their stand samples of the many materials and chemicals which will bo used in making their porcelain enamels. These include crystal borax, boracic acid, flint, fluorspar, cryolite, and oxides of tin and zinc. When coloured enamel as desired, this is obtained by using oxidee of such metals as copper, iron, chromium, antimony. and gold. These materials are melted in a reverbatory furnace with I a glass flux, which is then ground and ! applied to the articles at a white heat. The minerals used are obtained from countries 60 far apart as Greenland and South America. The formula of the various mixtures is a secret. Porcelain enamel is applied to castiron and steel. Thus it is distinguishable from ordinary earthenware. The firm are also giving a demonstration of actual enamelling of steel with a small laboratory furnace, merely ta show the public the methods employed, , and are also showing how enamel signs J are manufactured.
