OBITUARY

REV. JAMES PATERSON The Rev. James Paterson, Presbyterian minister, passed away at his residence, Duller street, at 1 o’clock this morning. The deceased gentleman was born at Kirkswold, Ayrshire, Scotland, in 1830, and w r as educated at the Grammar School, Girvan, and the Universities of Glasgow and Edinburgh. Hlie was lisensed as a preacher after a course of study at the Free Church College, Edinburgh, aud was ordained in 1857, and inducted to St. Peter’s, Liverpool, in 1860. In 1868 he accepted a call to St. John’s, Wellington, New Zealand, and retired on pension in 1903. The Rev. J-. Paterson was moderator of th© Presbytery in 1876, moderator of the General Assembly, and again in 1902. He is survived by on© son, William Paterson, bank manager, at Waipukurau, and two daughters, Mrs Porrit, of Thames, and Miss Paterson.
