Mrs Clift presided over a large attendance of the Brooklyn branch of the Brtiish and Foreign Bible Society. Mcbdames Falconer and Bailey received a hearty welcome, and were willing not only to be vice-presidents representing the churches, of which their husbands were ministers, but also generously offered to help with the work, which was most cheering to the workers. Mrs Clift was re-elected president; Mrs Webster secretary; with the following committee: Mesdamcs Bird, Falconer, Bailey, Cliffy Pennistone, Webster, Gittenge, Baudinet, Look, S. Webster, Buckingham, Mieses Kershaw, Dryden, Crabtree, Bardsley, H. Hodson, nnd Mesdames Philpott and Naylor. Mrs Porter spoke upon the work of the society and its progress in New Zealand, mentioning that the Bible House, Wellington, issued last year 19,867 copies of th£ Scriptures, thereby constituting a record, the circulation of tho previous i year being only 9000. Much regret wa6 | expressed by the members of the illness j of the Bov, David Calder, and best ! wishes were expresesd for a speedv recovery. Mrs Clift entertained all to j nfterhoon ten, which was greatly appreI ciated. It was decided to start the an- ! nual effort immediately. ! M r William F. J. Blackiston, outI side representative of Gordon and Gotch Advertising, Wellington, has been appointed advertising manager of Ch'ristohurch, and will take up his duties in that city this week.
