MURDERER’S CONFESSION SURRENDER TO THE POLICE. LONDON, July 6. George Payett, w'ho surrendered to the police after killing Christine Cordell at Watlham Abbey, Essex, has been again remanded. In a statement to the police Payett said: “I had been friendly with Miss Cordell, and took her to whist drives until my wife objected. I wanted Miss Cordell to continue lodging at my house, and when she refused I became angry and took a cattle-killer to frighten her. “We struggled, and I put the killer to her head and struck it with a mallet. She cried, ‘Don’t darling!’ Twice I tried to commit suicide with tho killer, but failed.”
