ANNUAL REPORT ENCOURAGING PROGRESS MADE CLASS IN WOMEN’S PRISON His Excellency the Governor-Gen-eral is to preside at the annual meeting of the Wellington Centre of the St. John Ambulance Association at tho Concert Chamber to-night. There is to be a short musical programme and a display of first-aid work by members of the ambulance and nursing divisions. The annual report states that the public have shown a marked interest in the work. The classes had been particularly well attended. The country classes were being well maintained. Patea, Hawke’s Bay, Palmerston and Masterton had all had a very successful year. A BORSTAL CLASS Locally the association’s officers had been , doing excellent work and at Petone knd Wadestown goad classes Rad been operating. Dr, PlattsMills and Mrs Gaby, with the assistance of Dr. Palmer, conducted a class at tho Borstal Institute at Point Halswell, and it was very pleasing to record that some 38 students went through the course with a splendid percentage. Arrangements had been made for a home nursing class at the institution during U e coming year. Owing to the growth of the work in and around Wellington, the time was considered opportune to form the Wellington suburban nursing division which came into being in November last. The first officers are:—Lady superintendent, Mrs K. E. Osborn; first officer, Mrs McWhannell; secretary, Mrs R. A. RAmsay. The association wished a successful career for the new division. ON HARBOUR FRONT Th<i Salvation Army classes under Ensign Atherfold were again to the fore, and the police classes under Sergeant H. Scott had maintained their efficiency. The Wellington Harbour Board permanent employees formed a first-aid class which was trained by Mr F. O’Connell, and a movement was now on foot to form a Harbour Board division. The Government grant remained the same as in previous years, vis., £9O, and they were indebted to the Macarthy trustees for a grant of £IOO. For the first time for several years a street day was held with the result that the funds of the association benefited to the extent of £386 6s 6d, of which £sl 2s 6d was voted to the brigade, tlie balance being transferred to the building fund, which now stands at £3192 19s lOd. In this connection a bazaar is to be held Inter in the year. The retiring members of the committee are Mesdames Gabv, Helyer and Stace, Messrs Dutton and Ward, who ore eligible for re-election. , Thanks are recorded to the members Of the medical profession for their untiring efforts, to the class secretaries, and to the demonstrators for (heir excellent work.
