M'CONACHY V. TOTHILL
CHAMPION’S GOOD START Clark McConachy, the New Zealand billiards champion, whose gallant fights in the world’s championship in London have earned him the admiration of all lovers of the game in the Dominion, commenced his match of 900 C up against Tom Tothill, the North of England champion, at the Albert Billiards Parlour yesterday afternoon. The New Zealand champion is conceding the Lancashire man 2000 in 9000, and sessions of 750 up are being played each session. Bonzoline balls are being used. Tothill was not playing confidently in the first session, and twice broke down' unexpectedly. McConachy’s second visit produced 89, and later, in a nice run of 103,-he collected a pretty string of nursery cannons, and some neat masse shots. Tothill then came to light with 66, breaking the balls badly when he should have had a run of nurseries. He broke down on a long red loser. The New .Zealander showed some top of the table form in a break of 136, and then left Tothill with a useful opening for 63. McConachy was the first to reach his points with 125 unfinished. McConachy 751 Tothill (rec. 2000) 2301. EVENING SESSION. There was a good attendance at the evening session, when McConachy carried his unfinished break to 214. McConachy was the first to reach his points for the session, and the score at the close of play was:— McConachy,' in play 1505 Tothill (rec. 2000) ■ 2596 The best breaks were as follow: McConachy 214, 65, 151, 279, 21 unfinished. Tothill, 89, 80. Play takes place at 3 o’clock this afternoon and 8 o’clock to-night.
