IDEAS FOR THE BED-SITTINGROOM
Many people nowadays favour divans .with box spring mattresses in place of the ordinary bedstead. _ The advantage of the divan is that it can ho draped with Oriental rugs or covered with gay cushions during the day time It never looks unsightly ’Or out of Slace in a bed-sitting-room, or if people ave to pass through the bedroom to get from one part of the house to another. One type of divan is fitted with a detachable bed-head, which can he removed in the morning, thereby converting the bed into a settee and the bedroom into a sitting-room—all in leas than a minute. Another good- idea for improving the appearance of the bed is a rigid cylindrical bolster case which opens at the back. Every morning pillows and sleeping suit are insertel in the case, which tiien goes at the head of the bed, where it looks really smart and artistic, especially if the bedspread is chosen to match. Bed-settees, of course, are now obtainable in great variety, but mast of them entail a great amount of work in- opening out the bed and making it every evening, to say nothing of closing it up and folding away the bedclothes every morning. Some models are constructed so. that the bed may be made in the morning, and then hidden away inside the settee, hut care should be taken to see that proper provision is made in furniture of this type for airing the bedding. In addition to settee-beds, them are wardrobe-beds tfind bookcase beds, to say nothing of cupboard, cabinet, and bureau-boas. One ingenious piece consists of china cabinet-. sideboard, and bed (three pieces off furniture in one), and a. clever version of the setteebed has been constructed somewhat on the principle of a box. The settee is adapted aa the box-lid; it opens outward down the middle, and .when opened, tho spring mattress with bedding in position ready for use is revealed within. The mattress is then lifted to the seat level and Tested on conveniently placed supports when it is ready for use.
