IN THE LIMELIGHT
No, 6— 3. A. MALCOLM
Malcolm’s a product of the Wellington College. There he fought his way up all the grades in both Rugby and cricket, and finally won his cap in each sport. On leaving college at the end of 1921 he joined the Institute cricket team and the Old Boys’ Football Club, and in both gained his senior status immediately. At college he played in- the fiveeighths line, but in the tournament at . . Wanganui, in 1921, he temporarily filled the bill at .fullback, and this' has been his position ever since. In 1922 he caught the eye of the selectors, and in the last representative game of the season was given & place in the provincial side. Though he has had rivals to contend with has won his cap in each succeeding year, and this season he was nominated for the North Island team. Maloolm is a. cool and heady player and has initiative and resource. He stands next ta Mark Nicholls as a goal kicker and he is an accurate punter, while on several occasions a “pot” from the field has come from his boot. Malcolm’s chief weakness is in his fielding of the ball. He is inclined to vait far the bounce at timps, and his .ground fielding is not always sure — still these are points that can be remedied with practice. On attack be .often opens up the game for the backs, and not a few times has he paved the way for a try. We are yet to see the beet of Malcolm who has many years of football before him. Next week—S. Bedell.
