TRAMWAYS BAND
SUNDAY CONCERT BRILLIANT PROGRAMME PROMISED. A concert of unusual brilliancy, produced under the auspices of the Wellington Tramways Band, will take place at His Majesty’s Theatre at 8 o’clock to-morrow night. Mr Hilton Osborne will he heard in some excellent songs, his magnificent voice being given full scope to show .its power. It is announced that, the doors open 30 .minutes earlier 'than usual owing to the fact that the band will be repeating the sensational number, “Too Many Parties.” This number was put on at last concert, and since then over 300 requests have been received for its repetition. Artists employed in the number are: Marylin McGill, late principal lady in leading theatres of London, New York, Boston, Chicago, and Sydney. The violin obligato will he played by Mr W. Haydock, late of leading orchestras in London. The monologue will be taken by Mr Stanley Warwick, and Miss Spinks will act as solo pianiste. The whole will be accompanied by united jiand. Mr Berry, who ; will be remembered, for his work' as sliding trumpet soloist with the Redferrt Band heard here three years ago, will render one of his most popular and biggest novelty numbers on the sliding trumpet. Mr Berry, who is the conductor of the Wellington Tramways Band, has during the five weeks that he has been in charge secured the services of quite a number of Dominion champions with the object of keeping the band contesting honours in New Zealand, the shields and prize money having been annexed on all previous occasions by the visiting Australian bands.
The band has beep fortunate in securing (in the near future) the services of Messrs J.' Morrell (euphonium), E. Edwards (drummer), bandsmen of the Argyle and Sutherland Highlanders Band. To bring those men to Wellington and furnish them instruments the sum of £2OO was necessary. To raise this amount a huge jazz ball de luxe with a massed jazz band of 40 performers will he held in the Town Hall at 8 p.m., Wednesday, June 23rd. It is the intention of the committee to charge only popular prices 4s (single), 7s (double)', and supper provided. Captain R. H. Nimmo has kindly consented to act as honorary organiser.
