FOOT AND MOUTH DISEASE

INFECTION FROM ABROAD _ DEFINITE PROOF OBTAINED. , (Sydney "Sun” Cable.) LONDON, June 2. Outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease in Lanarkshire and Carlisle have been traced to pig carcases imported from Belgium through Holland. Tho Ministry for Agriculture traced and destroyed all tho carcases forming the consignment. Other shiploads were inspected and sent back to Rotterdam. Tho Minister for Agriculture declares the discovery most important. For the first time the department has obtained evidence in support of the suspicions that the disease was due to foreign meat. This will enable the Government to take preventive measures.
