LATE MILK
AND THE REASON WHY The reason given by tho manager ol the City Milk Department (Mi it. E. Herron) for late arrival of milk at Roseneath, mentioned in a letter to the Roseneath and Mount Victoria Progressive Association, read at its meeting, is that under the Shops and Offices Act employees could not be compelled to start their rounds until 4 a.m., which did not permit of finishing by 8 a.m., unless very good time in delivering was made. Then those who started at 3 a.m. were given Is a day bonus, but the man on the Roseneath round, until recently, had not agreed to start so early. One early delivery was caused by a relieving man, who started at 3 a.m. The position was the same in all the suburbs, where efforts were made to induce the men to start at the early hoar. The Employers’ Federation proposed to ask for amendments of the Act,' which, if f ranted, would enable the present difculty to he overcome.
