HEAVY TRAFFIC FEES

HAWKE’S BAY ALLOCATIONS AMICABLE SETTLEMENT. Per Press Association. NAPIER, May 28. The magisterial commission on the subject of tho allocation of heavy traffic fees among tho various local bodies in Hawke’s Bay had a somewhat unexpected ending this morning when the matter was equitably sottled as a result of a conference of delegates of the various local bodies attending the commission.

When the court resumed its sitting before Mr R. W. Dyer, S.M., Mr H. B. Lusk, representing the boroughs, said there seemed a possibility of an equitable settlement miich would save the court troubling further in the matter. The court then adjourned, and representatives of the boroughs, counties and town boards concerned met, nnd reached an agreement on the following terms: That 5 per cent, he retained by each collecting authority of the fees collected by itself, the remaining 95 per cent, of fees collected to be divided, one-third to boroughs and two-tliirds to counties and town districts; that the division between boroughs be on a basis of population, onethird capital value, one-third miles of metalled roads, and that one-third of that devision between the counties be on the basis of, capital value one-half, and miles of metalled roads one-half.
