SMALL BOY DROWNED
BOAT SWAMPS IN BAY YOUNG COMPANION RESCUED ACCIDENT WITNESSED FROM SHORE A drowning fatality occurred as tlie result of a small flat bottomed boat capsizing opposite tho Evans Bay bathing sheds early yesterday afternoon. The occupants of the boat were two small boys, Kevin Noel Carr, aged 10, residing at 21, Upper Bourke street, Kilbirnie. who met his death, and Henry (“'Dick”) Compton, aged 9, residing at 28, Kilbirnie crescent, who was recovered in an exhausted condition by a relief boat. The fatality presents a particularly tragic aspect, in the fact that the boy wished to purchase his mother a birthday present. However, as he had no money he gathered a bag of coke at Miramar, and it was while returning across Evans Bay with the coke that the boat swamped, and the boy lost his life. OVERLOADED AND NO OARS The two boys gathered the coke near the electric power station at Miramar. At about 1 p.m. they borrowed a sixfoot flat bottomed boat, and put out
