'BUS REGULATIONS
EFFECT IN WELLINGTON AREA MR WRIGHT ASKS FOR FAIR PLAY COUNCIL TO DISCUSS LAW A promise was given by tho Mayor (Mr C. J. B. Norwood) to the City Council last evening that councillors would be given an opportunity of intimating their attitude toward the new motor-’bus regulations. In reply to a question, the Mayor stated that there appeared to be some legal doubt as to when the new motor-’bus regulations came into force ; but so far as the City Council was concerned, they did not come into operation till June 10th. Councillor the Hon. R. A. Wright asked if the council would consider the question of the non-imposition of the extra 2d fare which ’buses were compelled to charge over trans, as many of the ’buses which now ran over roads upon which there wore also tram routes would shortly have to cease to run. It was a matter of fair play to consider this aspect. Tho Mayor said it was not proper to discuss the matter at this stage, and he had no desire to tie the hands of the council. NOT THE PROPER TIME Councillor G. A. Troup: Is it not fair that the council should express an opinion on this matter? The Mayor said the time was not proper, and as the question of pur-
chase of ’buses might bo involved, the matter should bo discussed in committee. In reply to Councillor Semple, the Mayor said the issue of a public statement indicative of the council’s attitude would rest entirely in the hands of councillors. STATEMENT PROMISED Councillor McKeen: Will a statement be made prior to June 10th? The Mayor: Yes, I think that could be done. The Wellington City Council has been appointed the licensing authority in motor-omnibus district No. 9, in accordance with the provisions of the Mctor-Omnibus Regulations.
