HEALTH WEEK

ACCUMULATION OF. RUBBISH SYSTEMATIC REMOVAL. On account of many people in the taking advantage of Health Week as an opportunity of disposing of their accumulated rubbish, the health committee of the City Council feels that the council is being imposed upon, and it advanced the suggestion to the meeting last evening that property-owners themselves should defray the cost of the removal of this class of refuse. “When Health Week was first inaugurated,” the committee stated, “the campaign was intended to be one for the education of the people in matters of health, but now the campaign is regarded by most as an opportunity to dispose .of accumulated rubbish, such as old spouting, old tins, roofing, etc., material which should be disposed of ordinarily at the expense of the owner. The committee, while recommending that a clean-up campaign should be held, are strongly of opinion that the minimum cost of removal of such material should be bortie by the owner.” . It was recommended that authority be granted for the city engineer to issue instructions for the systematic removal of all accumulated rubbish from premises in the city and suburbs i at a minimum cost to the owner or Occupier of the premises.
