MODERATE SCORING

AUSTRALIANS AT OXFORD GREGORY AND GRIMMETT SHOW FORM OXFORD’S BOWLING GOOD By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Reuter's Telegram. LONDON, May 24. The weather was gldriously warm for the continuation of the match between the Australians and Oxford University, but the wicket was soft and drying after a heavy thunderstorm on Sunday. The fielding of the Oxford team was generally slack, but the bowling was good, notably that of Butterworth, who wa6 unlucky not to get a wicket. The attendance was over 8000. Taylor, in Greenstock's second over, failed to get under the ball, and was easily taken at mid-on. Andrews played attractively and forcefully, malting some nice drives. Greenstock, a slow left-liander, made full use of the drying wicket, and puzzled the batsmen, but runs came freely from the fast bowlers. When Ryder had scored 21 Butterworth failed to hold a hot and difficult return. Taylor, a slow right-hand-er, in his first over, got Andrews out to a ball which pitched twice. He had been in for an hour and a half, hitting one 6 and two 4*s. GREGORY A JOY TO WATCH Gregory played with his customary brightness. He lifted his first ball from Stephenson out of the ground, and tlion sent Butterworth to the leg boundary. His lightheartedness, clean drives, and excellent timing were a joy to watch. He was caught magnificently at longfielcl * by Greenstock while do}, Suiuun^' speed. He hit one 6 and three 4*s. Urimmett got going quickly, and when he had scored 14 jumped out to drive Taylor, and was badly missed by Abell, who should have stumped him. He was sound and bright, timing his strokes well. He cut Richardson three times to the boundary. His partnership with Ellis lasted an hour, and produced 74. Ellis was content mainly with singles, but both played the tired bowling with ease. Grimmett's score included five 4’s. UNIVERSITY'S INNINGS Oxford University opened their second innings slowly, Serrurier being purely on the defensive. Stewart-Brown, however, was more enterprising, and sent both Richardson and Ryder to the boundary past cover-point. Stewart-Brown had most of .the bowling, but was unable to get the ball away till he opened his shoulders . and sent Hailey twice to the boundary. He hit Richardson to leg for 3, and when he had scored 29 gave a difficult chance to Mailey from a high return. Griminett was expensive when facing Stewart-Brown, but, ultimately the batsman overreached himself to drive, and was stumped. He had occupied the crease for an hour and a quarter, hitting five 4*s. Holmes and Taylor carried on brightly till time was called, the latter getting two boundaries and a 2 off Grimniett in one over. The following are thb detailed scores: AUSTRALIA. First Innings..
