BARLEY GROWERS

MEETING OF DELEGATES HIGHER PRICE WANTED. Per Press Association. BLENHEIM, May 2i. In the long standing dispute with the brewers in regard to the price whuen should b© paid for barley for growing contracts, the Blenheim branch of the runners* Union, which is acting hb spokesman for the growers of Marlborough. has aroused the co-operation of tho Canterbury and Otago growers. Lurlv this month representatives of the branch met Mr W. w. Mulbolland, representing the Canterbury growers, in Wellington to discuss the price which should be asked for the coming season. Nothing definite was agreed on, though the delegates agreed that there was an insufficient margin to the grower at the existing nrirc of 5s Gd a bushel. The delegates examined the possibility of brewers importing American barley, and came to the conclusion that on Mnrch quotations it could be landed in the. Dominion at 5s Id a bushel. They decided to procure a sample of the American article with a view to deciding whether brewers were likely to use it The branch is also asking the Government for statistics to the areas under barley in various districts of the Dominion, and the price to be asked will be fixed later.
