FILGHT TO AUSTRALIA
COBHAM WILL USE SEAPLANE TO ENSURE SAFE LANDINGS. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. LONDON, May 20. The strike, and difficulties exceeding his anticipation, will prevent the airman, Mr Alan Cobhaiu, from tearing for Australia till the middle of June. Mr Cobham points out that the monsoonal rains, specially in India and Burma, will have rendered all landing places, except prepared airdromes, almost, if not entirely, unusable, making it impossible to land. He has, therefore, decided to remove the undercarriage from his de Haviland machine which did the Africa and Burma flights, and replace it with allmetal floats, making the craft a seaplane, thus ensuring safe flight and ability to carry on through all weathers. It does not mean travelling the whole way over the sea, but when crossing Europe, India, and other territory, rivers will Tie used as landing places.
