MINISTERIAL The Prime Minister, the Right Ron. J. G. Coates, who has been* slightly indisposed, was back at liis office in Parliament House yesterday. The Hon. J. A. Young leaves lor the North to-night To represent the Government at a Papakura Chamber of Commerce banquet on Wednesday. He will open a hospital at Huntly on Saturday, and on Monday will confer with The Hospital Board at Palmerston North. On Wednesday he leaves Wellington for Picton and on Thursday opens a nurses’ home at Bleuhcim The Hon. G. J. Anderson left for the South last night on his way to Otago Central, where he will look into matters affecting the Alines Department. He will also unveil a soldiers’ memorial at Alataura. He will bo absent from Wellington for about eight days. Air David Cody, the Wellington manager of the Charles Haines Advertising Agency # Ltd., has left for Auckland, where mo will take charge of the Auckland branch of the Haines organisation during Air C. H. Dickinson’s temporary transfer to head office. Air Percy Hunter, general manager for Australia and New Zealand of the Pacific Cable Board, who is visiting New Zealand on the board’s business, left Wellington for Christchurch last night. He will leave Auckland next week for Australia. Deep regret has been felt in amateur athletic circles at the death of Air W. E. Corbett, which occurred last week. The late Air Corbett, who wa.--39 years of age, was a member of the Wellington Centre of the N.Z.A.A.A , holding offioe as a delegate from the Selwyn A.A. Club, and ho was also a handicapper for cycling events. Some twenty years ago he competed as a cyclist. By his oeath the sport of amateur a UilcticJ lias lost a very staunch supporter. Among those present at the funeral were representatives of the N.Z.A.A.A. Council, the AVellington Centre, and various amateur athletic clubs. “The Field” has an appreciative reference to Sir James Allen, in repaid to his toming retirement as High Commissioner, and it comments: “As High Commissioner Sir James Allen Ims taken an active interest in the schemes for attracting to New Zealand a due proportion of British emigrants, and his tenure of office has been marked by his outstanding characteristics of energy, integrity, and inflexibility of purpose. Sometimes tho representatives of the Dominions • stay on in this country after the expiry of their term of office, but we understand that Sir James Allen proposes to return to New Zealand and is planning to leave in August. He will be greatly missed, and will be followed into retirement bv the good wishes of all who know him.” “Sir James Parr (adds the same writer) is not altogether a stranger to this country, having visited it during the wal as a member of the New Zealand Par. liamentary Commission which cams over on the invitation of the British Government to inspect the operations in Franje. He has an extensive knowledge of Empire affairs, and, as a man of very great energy and determination he will, it is anticipated, be * keen and enthusiastic successor to James Allen.”
