BRITISH COAL DISPUTE MINERS PROMISED SUPPORT BY INTERNATIONAL UNION. Sydney “Sun” Cable. LONDON, April 16. The “Standard’s” correspondent in Brussels states that the International Miners’ Federation assured Messrs H. Smith and A. J*. Cook of its fullest support in the event of a stoppage of British mining, and empowered the committee to call an international strike, if necessary. The federation declared that t-he international coal crisis is causing a severe social conflict in coal-producing countries, necessitating international regulation of coal production and distribution. Political circles attach importance to the news from Brussels that the executive of the Miners’ International has resolved to support the British miners. The executive has undertaken, in event of a strike, to take all measures to prevent the shipment of Continental coal to Britain. If this leads to an international miners’ strike no sectional settlement will be recognised. WITH OWNERS (Sydney “Sun” Cable.) LONDON, April 16. Sir Arthur Steel-Maitland, Minister far Labour, on behalf of Mr Baldwin, conferred with the coal owners, and urged that a confidential declaration be made of new wages rates compiled in accordance with the Coal Commission’s suggestions for eliminating the continuance of the subsidy. If the owners’ proposals are not available by April 19th Mr Baldwin will attempt to speed them up. ENGINEErTmaTsTRIKE CONFERENCE ABORTIVE. Reuter's Telegram. I LONDON, April 16.
