ASSOCIATION’S ANNUAL MEETING INCREASED CONCESSIONS ENJOYED PROVISION FOR FAMILY * ALLOWANCE - . The operations of the Wellington section of the New Zealand Public Services Association for the year ended March 316 t, are roviewed in the annual report, which was presented to the annual meeting last evening. s * "We finish the year/' the report states, with a reduced membership of 38 from Inst year. This is largely due to the fact that 156 of our lumbers resigned the service. Transfers to other .sections while 121 have been transferred Wellington. Resignations from membership amount to 156, while 197 new members have enrolled. The present .membership now stands at 1957, practically the same as at March 31st, 1924. ‘Applications for enrolment are coming in freely, and it is ejected that the number of members will reach 2000 within the .next two months ASSOCIATION CONCESSIONS "The strenuous work of collecting subscriptions has been finally rewarded inasmuch that over «£10f)0 has again been remitted to the general fund. This work is the most onerous your departmental representatives are called upon to perform. "A slight decrease in the sale of cash purchase tickets hns to be recorded, which is probably due to Jjie large number of resignations from the service. The booklet has been revised, and several new firms have been selected as discount houses. "Considerable improvement will # be found in this year’s booklet as concessions from motor services throughout the country have been arranged and should be of inestimable benefit to members. "The Public Service* Miniature Rifle Club, which was inaugurated by this secttoif in July last, has developed beyond all expectations, and at present carries « membership of 115 Public Servants. Twenty-two departments are represented, and an inter-departmental teams championship will be competed for this season. SUPERANNUATION "After representations covering a number of ypars, the association hasbeen successful in obtaining an amendment, to the Act which provides for the value of an officer’s emoluments. being added to salary for the purposes of superannuation. The amendment may bo mad© retrospective to the date of the onenin<* of tly* fund should the officer so elect. Increased pensions for and ehiMren have also been granted. "The classification list will no doubt be issuea at a much earlier date this year. "The family allowance question was mentioned by a reecnt deputation from the> executive to the Premier, and in this connection particulars of families are to be provided per the next census. A BRIGHT FUTURE "Generally speaking, the position of the spctlov is sound, and its finance steady.. Further, it is gratifying to know that while year after year other sections are supplied with transferred financial members, we still have the newly-appointed officers always ready to fill the vacant
places on the membership roll. It is optimism that we embark on a new financial year/* * VALUE TO MEMBERS The chairman (Mr. J. H. McKay) expressed gratification at the result of the year’s working, and added a word \of praise for the secretary, Mr George Ward. Already 35 meTnbers had been elected since March 31st. /The tea-room at Government Buildings, was a huge success. The miniature rifle club was the largest of its kind in New Zealand. In seconding the adoption of the report, Mr A. Burgess dwelt upon the value of the association to the Individual member, particularly in view of Government recognition of the organisation.
