WHARVES UNDER CONSTRUCTION MIRAMAR WORK PROGRESSING. In his annual report the genera) manager and chief engineer to tlie Wellington Harbour Board (Mr J. Marchbanks, M.1.C.E.) has tlie following reference to the berthage accommodation at the }>ort: — “The completion of the Pifdtea wharf has enabled the berthage' of all vessels arriving to bo accomplished without dej*v, but since the termination of tlie strike, when a number of vessels arrived simultaneously, the resources of the port have been seriously taxed. The extension of Miramar wharf is now well advanced towards completion and the construction of the Burnham oil wharf has been started. When completed these wharves will give considerable extra accommodation to coal and oil vessels which require to be berthed at Miramar. “A stnrt has also been made at the breastwork on Aoten quay, which in tho meantime will be used for the discharge of oil vessels. This breastwork can readily be extended so ns to provide further berthage when it is found necessnrv. When the Thorndon reclamation is completed berths on the hronstwork will be connected to the railway system.’’-
