At a .swimming carnival to-night th® Queensland champion, Grier, up;>£ared in a 100 yards scratch race, meeting Dowsett, of Wanganui, the New Zealand champion. The race resulted : Grier 2 Dowsett 2 Adamson 3 Won by a foot. 57scc. Dowsett’s time was 57 2-s—well under tlie New Zealand record. Grier also won the 440 yards race by lj yards in smin 37 l-ssec. Pelham being second and Enright thud. Grier led throughout. In an official attempt to break th# New Zealand 160 yards intermediate girls’ race, Marie Farquhar was successful, clipping one-fifth of a second off the record. She covered the distance in 69 l-3sec. At waver polo H.M.S. Diomede’s team beat H.M.S. Delhi.
