CAUGHT IN THE ACT

BURGLAR FOUND UNDER BED MARAUDER BEFORE COURT. Per Press Association, PALMERSTON NORTH, March 15. While the occupants were absent on Saturday evening, a young man entered the dwelling-house of Mr J. B. Wilton, in Featherston street. On returning, Mr and Mrs Wilton and tlieir son noticed’ a dim light shining through the glass hall door. Mr Wilton entered, and found the gas lit in two rooms, but nobody in them. Mr Wilton, with the aid of a passer-by who had an electric torch, searched the house, and a young man was discovered under a bed in the unlighted front room. Tile police were called and the man was arrested, and lie appeared' at the Magistrate’s Court this morning. His name was Michael Patrick Somers, aged 20, and He was charged with stealing from the house a Rilver chain and two silver pencils. He was remanded tilt Wednesday.
