POLO WEEK

A BRILLIANT BALL. The final match of the Savile Cup tournament was played on Friday before a great many keen spectators, many of whom had motored from long distances for the event. After a most exciting game victory went to the Hawke’s Bay A team, which defeated the holders, Canterbury, by nine goals to six. Immediately afterwards the Savile Cup itself, was presented, Mr W. Mackenzie receiving from Mrs Levin on behalf of his team amid great cheering. Sir R. L. Levin, vice-president of the New Zealand Polo Association, made a brief congratulatory speech, and Mrs Levin handed miniature replicas of the cup to Messrs C. Mackenzie, N. Campbell, J. Lyons. Mrs Levin wore cedar brown georgette and a brown hat of the same shade. A great event of the Polo Week was the ball given by Mr and Mrs R. I_. Levin, in honour of the visitors, which was a brilliant success in every way. In the canopy of coloured streamers that transformed, the hall could he distinguished the colours of the various nolo clubs, while nale blue and white hydrangeas carried out the association colours. These were placed in large brass jars. A gorgeous note of coiour was given by masses of yellow and orange marigolds. Palms and potplants under rose-shaded lights mad* the adjoining marquee charming and sweet peas and beech were used in the supper room. The supper, a charopaene one, was excellently arranged. Mrs Levin, who received with her husband, wore a dress of gleaming silver tissue veiled in filmy black Chantilly lace, the godet flares headed by handsome buckles of brilliants Miss Levin wore palest pink georgette, the hem encrusted with crystal and silver, and cluster of hand-nainted suede Bowers.
