SHOT AS A SPY
MAN’S INNOCENCE PROVED TRIBUTES AT GRAVESIDE Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. PARIS, March 9. The moving ceremony of the rehabilitation of an innocent man who was shot in the war took place at, Maubeuge. Jn 1914, Strimmelle, a blacksmith, on September 7tb, was accused of espionage by means of homing pighons, and shot out of hand at the foot of the ramparts of Mauibeuge. Local opinion was immediately convinced that there had been a miscarriage of military justice. Finally the League of the Rights Of Men took up the case, and the courts proclaimed the blacksmith’s innocence. To-day there was a great gathering at the grave of the dead man, and the speeches paid tribute to his honour and expressed sympathy with his widow and children. Finally, the onlookers came to the grave, .'and each one took an oath to do his best to prevent war in the future.
