NEW ZEALANDERS ABROAD (“British Australasian and New Zealander,” December 31st.) Miss O’Brien, of Wanganui, has gone to Nice. Mrs Moore and Miss Hales, Wellington, are staying at. Mentone. Mr and Mrs Neame, of Wanganui, are at Alassio. Mrs F. M. B. Fisher, of Wellington, is spending some time in Italy. The Archbishcp of New Zealand has arrived in England from Sydney. Lady Nolan, of Auckland, and Miss Nolan, return to New Zealand by the Athenic. Captain and Miss Bone, of Christchurch, have taken rooms at Ealing for some months. Lady Chaytor has left London for the Canary Islands, and will b© away for six weeks. Mrs and the Misses Cruickshank, of Wairarapa, are going to Switzerland for the winter sports. Mrs Egerton Reid, of Timaru, and the Misses Reid, are going to the South of. France for some months. Mr Donald McGavin, of Vefimgton, now at Trinity Hall, Cambridge, is spending the vacation in London. Mr and Mrs Barthrop, of \pw’ Plymouth, and Miss Beryl Barthrop leave for New Zealand in the Oronsay in January. * Miss van Ascii, Sumner, is a:- present staying at Monaco. Her *sister, Mrs Stevens, and her husband are at Hyeres. Mj* and Mrs Lindo Levein, of Wellington, have taken a house at Laleham, near Staines, and are now in residence there. Mr and Mrs Chapman, of Dunedin, have left for the South of France, and it is probable that they will remain there for several months. The Countess of Hardwick© and Lady Elizabeth York© will leave Southampton to-morrow for Capetown. They will be atvay for three months. Mr And Mrs Cyril Powell and their little girl hope to go to Gagnes, near Nice, tor February. Mrs Powell waa Miss Waldegrave, of Wellington. Miss Charlotte Petrie, of Invercargill, has gone to Paris to spend the holidays with her mother and her sister, Miss Gladys Petrie, who is studying in France. Mr S. S. Gyton, of Wellington, ia returning to New Zealand by the Guildford Castle, via the Cape. He may stay a few weeks in South Africa. The following New Zealanders are staying at Monte Carlo:—Mr and Mrs E. Mawley, Mrs Lord, Mr William Barrington-Miller, and Mrs GraemeRobertson. Mr J. Christie, Chief Law Draughtsman in Wellington, has returned to London from a visit to the birthplace of one of his parents at Limavady, Northern Ireland. Mr James Wykes, of Wellington, late of the New Zealand section at Wembley, has been asked to arrange the New Zealaud exhibit at the Imperial Institute, South Kensington. Mr John Moore, of Wellington, and Miss Evelyn Moore have taken a flat at 29, Trebovir road, Earl’s Court, while the former is studying art at the Slade School in London. Mr H. F. S. Sweetman, of Auckland, is staj’ing with a cousin at Whipps* Cross, Leyton. Mr Sweetman has come over to study Labour conditions and politics and to visit .tlie Continent Mr and. Mr© G. H, Perrett. of''Weir liugtori, have been staying in the south of France, making their headquarters at Nice. The Christmas holidays are being spent with relatives at St. Moritz. Dr. and Mrs J. McNaughton Christie, of Wanganui and Wellington, have sold their house in Cornwall Gardens, and taken a flat at 62,' North Gate, Regent’s Park. Dr. Christie has consulting rooms in Weymouth street. Mr Dehvvn Grant, of Timaru, and Mr S. G. Chaplin, of Hastings, who are travelling together, are recent arrivals in this country. The former is to visit relatives in Scotland, and the

latter intends to study architecture. Mis© Reid and Mis© Edith Reid, daughters of Mr W. E. C. Reid, returned to London for Christmas. On the Continent they were with .a party of New Zealanders, including Mrs Robert Mills and Miss Mills and Miss Farquhar, wlw> went for. winter sports. The Misses R. and E. Vigor-Brown, of Napier, went to Switzerland at the beginning of September. A few weeks ago, however, they found it necessary to return, as Miss E. Vigor-Brown had to undergo an operation for appendicitis. She is now convalescent. Miss Tlieo. Halpin, daughter of Major and Mr© T. P. Halpin, of Auckland, has been awarded a special Director’s Exhibition at the Royal College of Music, London. This is only the second given to New Zealand, and entitles her to tuition at the Royal College for from two to four years. .Miss Halpin, accompanied by her mother, has arrived in London. Her chief study is piano. Mr and Mrs John Buchanan, of Auckland, who arrived in this country in July, via Canada and the United States, are now staying at Brixton Hill. They have been on a motor tour to Scotland and the English Lake'©, visiting friends in Yorkshire, Bedford, and Northampton. Since then they have been motoring in the south of England, staying with relatives at Bournemouth. In the New Year they intend to visit some of their friends in the Midlands. Mr Shavlo Gardner has received, an offer from, Mr Matheson Lang to join hi© touring company, which will come into being in March, 1926. The tour in this country will last until September, and them the company will go over to Canada. Tlie repertoire includes “The Wandering Jew,” “The Tyrant,” a new play called “The Chinese Bungalow.” “The Carnival,” ancf “Othello.” In tho Shakespearean presentation the New Zealand actor will play lago. Mr Gardner will he remaining on the Continent, until February.
