WORK OF HOSPITAL BOARD EXPENDITURE BELOW ESTIMATE. Tbe social welfare committee of the .Wellington Hospital Board reported as follow at yesterday’s meeting, the report covering the period December Ist to December 29th:— The cates standing as at December Ist numbered 96, and 16 hew cases were admitted during the period, making a total of 112 cases assisted. At tbe and of the period 96 cases remained. A comparative table of cases according to causes of distress showed:—Unemployment 8, desertion and separation 23, sickness 49, widowhood 16, old age 11. imprisonment 3, miscellaneous 2. Outdoor relief was granted on a daily average to 242 oases, tbe number of rations being 1130. Cash gtanty totalled 192. Indoor relief was granted in 99 cases. Accounts amounting to £97? 8s 4d were passed for payment. A table _ of expenditure and reoeipts for the nine months ended December Ist, 1926, compared with estimates showed the following position:— Indoor relief (Ohiro Home), estimate for year- £5700, for nine months £4275, actual expenditure £3626, below estimate £649. Outdoor general relief.—Estimate for year £7650, for nine months £5737, actual expenditure £6032. above estimate £295. Medical services: Estimate for year £l5O. for nine months

' The reoeipts from old-age pensions recoveries totalled £Bl5 out of an estimate of £1125, or £3lO below estimate.
