The N.Z. .Shipping Company have been advised by cable that the steamer Schowen sailed from St. John on January 22nd for Newport Newß, en route to New Zealand. -The Schowen, which is bringing Canadian cargo for discharge at Anckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin and New Plymouth, is dn* at Auckland about March sth, and at Wellington a week later. AUSTRALIAN SHIPPING. The New Zealand Shipping Company advise the following movements of their steamers in Australian waters:— The Otorama left Melbourne on .January 24th for Sydney. The Rimutaka, en route from Sydney to England, arrived at Albany on January 24th. The Opawa arrived at Townsville 1 on January 23rd from Cairns, and next proceeds to Brisbane. The Piako, from Sydney, arrived at Melbourne on January 23rd, and later goes on to Adelaide. * ' TRENEGLOS FROM NEW YORK. With cargo for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Bluff, the A. and A. Line steamer Treneglos arrived at Auckland yesterday from New York. She is expected at this port about February 2nd. HUNTINGDON REPORTED. Cable advice received by the Federal S.N. Company stated that the steamer Huntingdon, en route from Liverpool, arrived at Curacao on January 23rd and sailed again the following day for Anckland, where she Is due on February 16th. MIDDLESEX’S PROGRAMME.' The Federal S.N. Company advise that the sledmer Middlesex is due at Auckland to-morrow from Lyttelton, and later proceeds to Napier, Wanganui, and WelHngtoif to complete loading. SURREY FROM LONDON. Having discharged a quantity of explosives off Motuihi, the Federal Line steamer Surrey, which arrived at Auckland from London on Thursday evening last, berthed at the Auokland wharf yesterday- Henoe she proceeds to Lyttelton, Timaru, and Wellington to complete discharge. When proceeding down the River Thames -at the outset of her voyage, the Surrey collided with* the hop-per-barge J H. Hunter, and sustained .damage to her stem. She was towed buck to London and dry-docked for - repairs, sailing again for New Zealand on December 12th. A hard south-east gale, -with exceptionally high seas, was encountered on December 17th, the vessel being hoveto for nine hours. Although the blow proved of exceptional severity, the Surrey escaped damage and resumed her voynge when the conditions moderated. Favourable weather was then experienced and the steamer arrived at Curacao on Decomber 28th. After replenishing her oil bunkers she resumed her voynge, to arrive at Colon three days later. Transit through tho canal was obtained the following day, and the steamer continued her voyage across the Pacific. Fine weather prevailed almost to port, the steamer averaging 18,6 knots. On arrival nt Auckland on Thnrsdnv evening, the Surrey anchored off Riingitoto. The storm on Friday compelled her to remain at her anchorage until Saturday morning, when she proceeded to the powder anohorage off Motuihi., The' vessel is expected to sail from Auckland about Tuesday of next week. The steamer Trekieve, which is discharging Montreal cargo under the aus> pices of the New Zaland Shipping Company, leaves Lyttelton to-day for Dunedin, Melbourne, and Sydney to complete. WAIRUNA DUE FRIDAY. To continue her discharge of Pacific Coast cargo, the Union Company’s transpacific cargo steamer Wairuna is due at Wellington on Friday from Auokland. She later proceeds to Australian ports to completq. KENT SAILS. Having completed her loading under the auspices of the New Zealand Shipping Company the Federal steamer Kent took her departure from Wellington early yesterday morning for London, via Panama.
THE CANADIAN BRITISHER. Now in the south, completing her discharge and loading, the Canadian Government Line advise that the steamer Canadian Britisher returns to Wellington on February sth from Napier to take in cargo. She leaves again on February Bth for Auckland, where she completes loading, and sails on February 11th for New York, Boston, and Halifax. PORT MELBOURNE LEAVES BLUFF. The' C. and D. Line advise that the steamer Port Melbourne left Bluff yesterday for Lyttelton, and is to leave there on Saturday for Auckland, Gisborne, Napier and Wellington, to complete loading for Home. She is to sail finally from here on February 17th for London, via Monte Video. PORT HUNTER AT PICTON. To' complete her loading for Home, the C. and D. Line advise that the steamer Port Hunter leaves Picton on Friday afternoon for Wanganui and Wellington, and is to sail finally from here on February 6th for London,' via Panama. MARTABAN "FOR WANGANUI. • The C. and D. Line advise that the steamer Martaban left Dunedin yesterday afternoon for Wanganui, to complete her discharge of New York cargo. She later proceeds to Westport for bunkers, before proceeding to Australia to load for Home. SB SSEK TO COMPLETE. The Union Company advise that the steamer Sussex leaves Dunedin on Friday for Bluff, to complete her discharge of Eastern merchandise, after which she tiroceeds to Sydney for survey before eaving for Calcutta to load again for New Zealand. WILLASTON FOR SOUTH. The Union Company’s chartered steamer Willaston leaves Wellington to-mor-row for Lyttelton, thence Dunedin and New Plymouth, to complete her discharge of Pacific Coast cargo. THE WEST HENSHAW. Carrying 1,000,006 ft of timber, 80,000 cases of oil. and 800 tons «f general cargo, the steamer West Henshaw, a unit of the Swayne and Hoyt Lino, arrived at /Auckland from Los Angeles on Saturday evening. On arrival the freighter anchored in the stream until Sunday morning, -when she. berthed at the Prince's wharf. The Wgst Henshaw, which is making her first visit to New Zealand, loaded her cargo on the Pacific Coast, and took her final departure from San Pedro, Los Angeles, on December 86th. Fine weather was encountered whilst crossing the Pacific, but on Thursday last the wind freshened /from the north-east, and on Friday increased to a hard gale. Heavy seas came on board, and during the afternoon the 6teamer was hove-to. The conditions moderated about midnight, and the West Henshaw was able to resume her. course. Her other discharging ports are Lyttelton, Dunedin, Hobart, and Melbourne. The West Henshaw is an oil burner of 5888 tons, and was built at Seattle In 1919. 1 The West Henshaw is under the command of Captain R. Afterwards she loads for Home at Port Chalmers, Bluff, Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington (March Ist to March 4th), Napier, Waikokopu, Tokomaru Bay and Auckland, under the agency of the New Zealand Shipping Company. She is to sail finally from Auckland on March 16th for London, via Panama. MATATUA FOR SOUTH. Now loading; at Wellington, the Sha:v. Savill and Albion Company advise that the steairmr.iMatatua leaved on Sunday for Lyttelton, thence Bluff, to complete. She is scheduled to clear Bluff finally -on Februar#' 12th for London, via Panama, KIA ORA’S LOADING PROGRAMME. To commence Homeward loading, the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company advise that the steamer Kia Ofa leaves New* Plymouth on Friday for Wellington. She sails again on February 6th for Port Chalmers, thence Timaru. and then returns to Wellington on February 83rd to complete loading, taking her final departure from here on February 85th for London, via Panama.
WAIWEJtA FROM LONDON. The Shaw, Savill ' and Albion Line steamer Waiwera arrived in the lower harbour at Dunedin shortly after 10 a.m. on Sunday from London, via Colon and Panama, after a passage of 42 days. The vessel was granted pratique by the port health officer, and then steamed to a berth at the Victoria wharf. The Waiwera loaded over 6800 tons of general merchandise at the Royal Albert Docks, and cleared London at 11.30 p.m. on December 11th. Fine weather was experienced to the Azores, when the ship encountered very heavy south-west and north-west gales. The storms prevailed for seven days, accompanied by very high seas. A large quantity of water found its way on board, but no damage was done. When the steamer cleared the storm area she was favoured with fine weather for the rest of the passage across the Atlantic. Colon was reached at 1.16 a.m. on December Slst, where the vessel coaled, and then resumed her voyage, transit through the 'Panama Canal being obtained on the afternoon of Docomber Slst. She cleared Balboa at 11 p.m. on the same day. Fine weather prevailed on the run across the Pacific until Saturday, when the Waiwera encountered strong north-east winds and rough seas. She made Taiaroa Heads, her first landfall, at 8 p.m. on Saturday. The average speed , from Balboa was 12.il knots, and the average throughout the voyage was 11.6 knots. Captain C. Wood is in command of the Waiwera, and has the following officers associated with him .-—Chief, Mr S, Oswald; second, Mr P. O'Leary; third, Mr ,1. .Teboult; fourth, Mr F. Messenger; chief steward, Mr F. Breedon; surgeon. Dr. R. Allan. After discharging part cargo at Dunedin, the Waiwera will go’ to Lyttelton and Bluff to land the remainder. She will subsequently load Dominion products at Port Chalmers, Oamaru, .Wellington, Lyttelton, Opua and Auckland, for New York. Boston and London. She will sail finally from Auckland about Maroh sth.
