FLOODS AT TAKAKA EXTENSIVE DAMAGE REPORTED. Per PreGs Association. NELSON, January 25. Takaka on Friday experienced a heavy flood, described as the worst for 40 years. The river overflowed the protection works and flowed over a very wide area, including most of the town. In some low-lying portions the water reached the windows of houses. Miles of fencing were Bwept away, and the loss of stock i 3 fairly heavy. It was thought that a youth, E. Sparrow, had been drowned,- hut he was found- marooned on an island in the river. Telegraphio communication was broken, but now is restored.
