THIRTEEN MEN GASSED

Thirteen men were gassed as a result of a gas escape at the works of Henry Besseker, Ltd., brassfounders. Birmingham. The escape was caused by a screw-tap used for releasing water being blown out from the producer gas engine. Not knowing this, the charge men started the engine, and the workshops were filled with gas. A serious disaster was averted by an employee having the presence of mind to stop the engine: hut many workers were baalv affected. Two men, Harold Caster and J. Foy, were found unconscious near the engine, but they were revived. Thirteen employees were taken to hospital, but were afterwar(ds allowed to go home.
