AIR SERVICE NEXT YEAR
BRITAIN—EGYPT—INDIA FOR GOODS, MAILS, AND PASSENGERS THREE-ENGINED MACHINES Heater’s Telegram. (Reoeived December 17, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, December 16. The progress of arrangements with Imperial airways for the Egypt and India air service was reported to the House of Commons by Sir Samnel tloare. the Air Minister who said the most important new point emphasised in the detailed survey of the route carried out in September was the great advantages which result from the use of three-engined machines, which make forced landings improbable. An agreement had been drawn up subsequently, providing for a subsidy on the basis of a regular fortnightly service, with three-engined machines, for goods, mails, and passengers, in each direction, via Bagdad and Bas®a, It was hoped that the subsidy and the increase in traffic would enable the company gradually to introduce r weekly service. The maximum annual subsidy was £93,000 for five years.
Owing to tbe time necessary for the construction of three-engined machines it was not expected that the service would operate much before the end of next year.
