GRAVE POSITION
TUBERCULAR IMMIGRANT CASE AT AUCKLAND CHARGE ON THE STATE (By Telegraph—Special to “Times.”) AUCKLAND, December 16. A case which was described by the chairman of the Auckland Hospital Board as revealing a grave state of affairs was the subject of a report made to tho board by the medical superintendent, Dr. C. E. Maguire. The report stated that a woman, aged 22 years, was admitted to the hospital last month suffering from a tubercular hip. She arrived in New Zealand from England in Deoember, 1924, with her mother and five brothers and sisters. It was stated she was then wearing a spinaL jacket, and her father died from the same disease. Dr. Maguire reported that the patient would probably have to '•make a long stay in the hospital, and might be a charge on it for several years. There was no information before the
board whether the patient was an assisted immigrant or not. The chairman, Mr W. Wallace, remarked that it seemed it might be better for the hoard to pay her passage back to England, The attention of the Health Department would he drawn to the matter, which was one that affected the public very much. It was decided to refer; the case to the chairman, medical superintendent, and secretary.
