CHEAPER PASSAGES
FOR IMMIGRANTS TO CHINA REMARKABLE REDUCTIONS MADE FOR FARMERS AND DOMESTICS Australian and N.Z. Cablo Association (Received December 16, 8.5 p.m.) OTTAWA, December 15. Under the new Empire settlement scheme, agriculturalists and house-, workers from the United Kingdom are offered transportation, to their destination in Canada at a lower rate than for a generation, according to the Department of Immigration and Colonisation. A comparison of the regular rates from ports of the United Kingdom with the rates available to Empire settlement passengers, shows remarkable reductions. The new rates are about one-quarter to about one-sixtli of the regular rates. The Immigration Department in a statement says: “It will bring tlie cost of a passage to the immigrant within tho reach of practically all British settlers of the classes sought, and will enable an Empire settlement passenger to land in Canada without an overhead debt to be paid.
