MOTOR INSURANCE

ANOMALIES IN COMPREHENSIVE POLICIES PROTEST BT AUTOMOBILE CLUB. "Anomalies in the present comprehensive policies on motor-cars were discussed at yesterday's meeting of the Wellington Automobile Club, it being decided to forward the following letter to the Underwriters’ Association:— “At a meeting of my executive held this week the complaints from members were discussed with regard to certain clauses in motor comprehensive policies, and I am directed to ask your council, if it would not be possible to amend the clause which specifies that a damaged vehicle must be removed at the insurer's expense to the nearest garage or railway station. _ A case was quoted where recently it cost £3O to remove a ‘ditched’ car to the railway station.. It was also mentioned_ that if a oir went ever a precipice into a river? thus being practically lost, it appears that the insurance company could insist upon it being recovered and removed to a garage at the insurer’s expense before a claim would "be considered. “My executive is resisting_ a strong movement towards co-operative insurance, feeling that this is a matter better handled by companies, and if one or two anomalies such as the item under notice were rectified, the present service as rendered hy joint stock companies would be all sufficient. If my executive is able to Teport to its large membership that this hardship has been ameliorated, it would go a long way towards averting the co-operative competition "that must otherwise inevitabfy come.”
