CITIZENS' WAR MEMORIAL
LAST NIGHT’S MEETING.
A largely attended meeting of the above was held last evening, when questions affecting the symbolical memorial scheme were dealt with. The draft proof of the conditions of competition were shown to the members, and the completed copies will be available for : competitors in tbe course of a few days. Proposals put forward by the recent-ly-formed Carillon Society were considered and replies to the same decided upon, which will be forwarded to the secretary of th© society. The following letter was received from the president and executive of the Wellington Returned Soldiers’ Association : The Chairman, Wellington Citizens' War Memorial Committee, Wellington : Dear Sir. —The executive of the Wellington Returned Soldiers’ Association strongly protests against the proposal to divert from the original purpose, the funds which were collected for the erection of a symbolical memorial. My executive begs to point out that the basis ot the present fund was the Cenotaph funds collected by the school children and the R.S.A., which wore handed over to the War Memorial Committee at its own request. My executive considers that there lias never oeen any doubt that the money was collected for the erection of a symbolical memorial, and congratulates the War Memorial Committee in declining to he influenced by any suggestions to erecT a memorial of any other character.
