THREE QUARRYMEN KILLED SHOCKING MUTILATION, Br Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. SYDNEY, November 26. An acoident at Phillips’s stone quariy, Bankstown, resulted in two men being killed outright, and three others so severely injured that they will probably succumb. The eon of the quarry-owner was ramming a charge when a terrific explosion occurred. Claude Burton and Jack Whyman, both of Lidcombe, were blown 50 feet in the air, and. their bodies were found horribly mutilated. The injured are Morgan Jones, of Caibramatta; Allan Phillips, of Bankstown; and ArthurHj’Brien, whose address is not known. They are suffering from broken limbs. Hardly a portion of their faces is. undamaged. Ambulance men describe the spectacle as the worst they have ever seen. Later. Phillips, one of the men injured in the quarry accident, succumbed to his injuries an hour after admission to hospital. The force of the explosion was so terrific that the victims’ bodies were found 30 feet from the edge of the quarry. The explosion shifted 200 tons of stone, and the men received the full force of it. The accident occurred a few minutes before work would have been ended for the day. It is believed that the men were ramming home a charge of gelignite when the charge hurst.
